Is Ryan Lochte’s reality TV show causing friction with his coach?
From the pool deck of the Orlando Grand Prix, Lochte talked about how filming for his upcoming reality TV show is impacting his training, and he shared his coach’s reaction.
Traditionally, Lochte has completed nine practices per week. Because of filming for his show, called “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?” Lochte has only been able to make about five practices each week, he said.
It’s a side effect of filming that Lochte’s coach, Gregg Troy, is none too thrilled about.
“Gregg hates it. He calls me yelling at me all the time, threatening to kick me off the team. He tells me to just go somewhere else,” Lochte said after competing at the Orlando Grand Prix. “And I tell him, I was just like ‘Look, this show is for me. Just stick with me for eight weeks until we’re done shooting the show, and then I’ll get back into it. Just let it be.’”
Lochte admits that he enjoys filming for the show, and he would readily do a second season if asked, he said. But like his coach, Lochte too is frustrated by his training schedule, he said.
“It’s frustrating on him and me because I love swimming. I love being in the water, and it just hasn’t happened that much,” Lochte said.
Lochte’s tv show is scheduled to begin airing on E! in April.
