Ryan Hall showed he is in fine form for the upcoming New York City Marathon with a win at the ING Philadelphia Distance Run this morning. Ryan Hall finished just seconds ahead of Samuel Ndereba, crossing the line in 1:01:52. Ndereba finished in second with a time of 1:01:56. The third place finisher was Benjamin Limo with a time of 1:02:01. Josh Cox finished in sixth place with a time of 1:05:09.
Ryan Hall currently holds the American half-marathon record of 59:43, which he set in Houston. He will face some stiff competition at the New York City Marathon on November 1, 2009, including defending champion Marilson Gomes dos Santos, Paul Tergat and Martin Lel. This will be Hall's first entry into the New York City Marathon.
On his Twitter page, Ryan Hall said he was happy with his result in the Philadelphia Distance Run today. "Great day in Philly! A big confidence booster for New York," Hall said on Twitter. Josh Cox was less enthusiastic about the race, saying on his Twitter feed: "Legs were dead, no pop at all." Still, Cox said it was a good race overall.
The women's race was won by Catherine Ndereba of Kenya, who is often referred to as 'Catherine the Great' for her dominating performances. This race also saw a close result, with Ndereba finishing in 1:09:43 -- just three seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Irene Limika. Neriah Asiba finished third.
Over 12,000 runners turned out for the ING Philadelphia Distance Run.
