Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams sure knew how to have heated arguments when they starred as Noah Calhoun and Alllie Hamilton in 'The Notebook.' According to a Yahoo! news report dated Weds. July 2, the onscreen couple wasn't always just "acting" angry with one another as they won America's hearts in one of the greatest chick flicks of all time.....they literally couldn't stand each other at first. In fact, Gosling even wanted her fired.

Any true Notebook fan was a fan of the sappy story because of the intense chemistry between Noah and Allie. Clearly there was substance to their camera relationship, as they wound up dating after the flick. However, their relationship didn't start out loving or promising. Perhaps these early fights between the two were an indicator that the pair was meant to have a long-term relationship offscreen, but for whatever reason, they just didn't hit it off in the beginning.

"Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, 'Nick, come here,'" director Nick Cassavetes told VH1. "And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, 'Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me? ... I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.'"

Things got worse before they got better.

Cassevetes then went on to reveal that Gosling, 33, and McAdams, 35, left the set with a producer and began screaming at each other. However, their ugly explosion soon turned to fireworks. After their argument, life on the set was quieter. Then as we know it, Gosling and McAdams dated for several years.

"They had it out. I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open," Cassevetes said. "The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing."

Sadly, one of Hollywood's greatest couples didn't get their own Notebook ending. However, the rumors of them getting back together will likely continue. Now though, we all know the interesting behind the scenes scoop between the two.
