US Magazine reported on July 2 2014 that Ryan Gosling almost had Rachel McAdams kicked off the set while filming The Notebook. As The Notebook celebrates its 10th anniversary, more details from behind the movie are surfacing. Nick Cassavetes, the director, is shedding light during an interview with VH1 on what actually happened on the set of the movie based on Nicholas Sparks’ novel.

Although Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams had the roles of on-screen lovers during The Notebook, as well as went on to date for two years later on, Cassavete has revealed that they were at odds more times than not. It is safe to say that the love hate relationship portrayed during The Notebook was partially true for them.

The director went on to say that during one day on set, the Gosling and McAdams were not getting a long at all. Cassavetes claims that Ryan Gosling came to him while there are roughly 150 people standing for this huge scene with Rachel McAdams. Ryan asked Nick if he would just take her out of there and replace her with a different actress who could read off the camera with him. He told Nick that he couldn’t do it with her and wasn’t getting anything out of it.

Since the tension going strong between Rachel and Ryan, Cassavete tried helping the two to work out their problems so they could finish the romantic film. Nick says that he brought the two in a room with the producer and they held nothing back. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams even began screaming at each other. Nick said he couldn’t take it so he had to walk out. He went on to say that at the time he smoked a cigarette because the stress was just too much. Before he knew it everyone came out of the room saying “Okay let’s do this.”

After the two actors got everything out on the table and out of their systems the film went on as scheduled. Nick thinks that because Rachel stood up for her character, Ryan respected her for it. Everyone could tell that Rachel was happier now that she got everything out in the open. Nick Cassavete says that the rest of the movie wasn’t completely smooth sailing, but it was a lot smoother than before.

Eonline reported on July 2nd that The Notebook celebrated its 10th anniversary on June 25. Aside from Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, the movie also starred James Garner who portrayed the elder version of Noah. Since Ryan and James were playing the same person, Ryan was eager to go over character traits with James. The 86-year-old unfortunately didn’t share the same enthusiasm that Gosling had for talking about their character choices. This ranged from mirroring one another’s mannerisms all the way to making sure both of their eye colors were the same.

Cassavetes tells Vh1 that James Garner was one of those actors who’s a “no-bulls—t actor from a time gone by.” While on the other hand, Ryan will find significance with talking about hairstyles and just about everything else.

The tension between the two made for an outstanding performance on screen. The audience could clearly see the chemistry and frustration set out for their characters. The chemistry on set was so apparent and intense that the two dated from 2005 to 2007.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams met for the first time on the set of The Notebook. The two had officially started dating about a year after the filming had ended. After the movie had premiered, Ryan and Rachel received the “Best Kiss” award at the June 2005 MTV Movie Awards. Their acceptance for the “Best Kiss” award was by far the most memorable acceptance as they shared a ‘repeat’ kiss on stage. Ryan commented saying it was his pleasure to reenact the kiss.

Aside from the “Best Kiss” award, the couple won three awards at the August 2005 Teen Choice Awards including “Choice Movie Chemistry”, “Choice Movie Liplock” and “Choice Movie Love Scene”. The couple’s performance in The Notebook led to led to them as actors to be remembered for years to come.

The couple stayed on the down-low during 2006. Rachel McAdams even took a break from making any movies. Originally there were plans for Ryan and Rachel to star in a movie called Lord’s Resistant Army, unfortunately that project had never been made. Rumors began in mid 2007 stating that Rachel and Ryan had broken up. But in October of 2007, Ryan officially confirmed to the public that they had in fact broken up a few months previous. Ryan’s statement claims that the one thing he remembered was that they both had gone down “swingin’” before they called it a draw.

Ryan also stated in the GQ Magazine “break-up” interview “I mean, God bless The Notebook. It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life.” The first time McAdams and Gosling were photographed together after the break up was in late July 2008. They were photographed after they had left a club in Hollywood. The reason for being at the club was because Rachel was there to support Ryan during his gig as a DJ. Rumors began surfacing about the two being back together and dating again.

The two were spotted out and about occasionally together during July and August. In late August the couple had finally confirmed their on-again relationship by going out in Toronto for breakfast. The couple broke up for a second time early in November. Thankfully the two had stated that they are remaining good friends.

Ryan Gosling has many memorable quotes relating to Rachel throughout the years. The following are just a few out of many that the public remembers most.

“All I knew was that she was a force to be reckoned with. How was I going to reckon with it?” Ryan goes on to say that he had no idea how he was to “reckon” with her force of nature. But he claimed that she was not someone who you could ever dismiss or put into one certain category. He ended the interview with GQ Magazine stating that she was many things.

During another interview with GQ Magazine about his relationship with Rachel, Ryan states “I mean, God bless The Notebook. It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life.” Ryan asked people to do him and Rachel a “disservice” by assuming the two of them were exactly like the people from the movie. He claimed that their love story was a hell of a lot more romantic than The Notebook’s.

One of the last interviews with GQ Magazine about their relationship, Ryan claimed that women were mad at him. He said that a girl once came up on the street to him and almost smacked him. She then asked him “How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?” He said he feels as if he should be giving people hugs because they all seem so sad. He then states that he and Rachel are the ones who should be getting hugs but instead they are busy consoling everyone else.

During an interview with W Magazine, he said that him and Rachel were together long before they were physically together. He repeated what he said to GQ Magazine saying that she was a force to be reckoned with. Though he didn’t know how he was going to reckon with her force, he knew that she wasn’t someone who he could just dismiss or put into one category. He closed the statement by saying she was many things.

Ryan Gosling did an interview with Toronto about him working with Rachel. He said that he was so, so lucky to be working with Rachel on The Notebook. A big thing for him when doing a film is who he will be opposite to. He says that there is only so much that he can do on his own so it is important to have the right match on set.

Ryan tells the Times UK that he does have interest in settling down but at the time he is in a committed relationship with film. He said that he is giving the film industry as much commitment as if it were a marriage. But he does admit that he has had two of the greatest girlfriends, Sandra and Rachel, and has yet to meet anyone who could top them.

Ryan Gosling then had an interview with Times UK about why his and Rachel’s relationship ended. Ryan blamed the show business. He claimed that show business is the bad guy and when two people are involved with show business, it becomes too much show business. He claims that show business takes all the light, preventing anything else from growing.

Aside from Ryan, Rachel has had her fair share of memorable interview quotes as well. Rachel had an interview with Elle Magazine about Ryan Gosling’s Oscar nomination. She said that he did an amazing job in Half Nelson and has worked so hard. She claimed that he never does the same thing twice and is very brave. Rachel doesn’t think Ryan sees a point in taking on a role unless he is able to find out what he is made of. He is not one to back off, she says, and he goes in to everything from that place.

During an interview with Movie IE about the success of The Notebook, Rachel admitted that it took them by surprise. She gives Ryan credit for being an incredible actor and says that they were both very determined to throw themselves into the roles. She admits that you should never hope that people will be moved by what you have done because that can set up disappointment. But she admits that it is mind-blowing when people practically start crying while talking about The Notebook to her.

While still talking about the success of The Notebook with Movie IE, Rachel laughed saying that there was a sense that they had to let everyone down. She goes on to say that it was as if they hadn’t fulfilled their destiny. She states that it is flattering because the two-hour movie hits an emotional nerve that many can’t shake. Rachel admits that she loves how these kinds of things can go out and deeply affect so many people.

The Notebook has impacted so many lives and it has so many people striving to find a love like that. After 10 years it still remains one of the most beloved love stories out there. It is safe to say that Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were perfect to fit the roles of Allie and Noah.
