On Jan. 17 Ryan Gosling is pushing his newest flick "Gangster Squad" to Stuff and while doing so, he admitted to one of his guilty pleasures, knitting. When Gosling has a few extra hours between his shoots, he likes to chill out in his trailer and knit. He didn't happen to say whether or not he was any good, but he said he can knit you an awkwardly shaped, off putting scarf.
Ryan says that he once did an episode of "Lars and the Real Girl" which his part included sitting in a room full of old ladies while they knit all day. Because the scene was an all day one, the ladies taught him to knit and it became the most relaxing day ever. He loves that after your project is finished, you have something that you can give to someone else, despite that your scarf may have a few "design flaws" and that there are a thousand rows.
Gosling also told Stuff that he thinks his love of knitting comes from the fact that his Uncle used to be an Elvis impersonator and he would hand-make all his costumes including sewing on all the tiny sequins. Things were a little backwards in his home growing up and that is where he learned that it would be okay to like something that is considered "womanly."
Once word began to travel that Ryan Gosling loved to knit, Internet memes most popularly known as the "Hey Girl Knitting" memes started to spread like wildfire. There are several dozen just like the ones included in the attached slideshow.
