After delving out several one-sheets for festival season, the official poster for Focus Features' The Place Beyond the Pines was finally released today. The film, featuring a star-studded cast and directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine), debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last September where it received generous reviews.
In the film, Ryan Gosling stars as Luke, a professional motorcycle rider. When Luke learns that his ex-girlfriend Romina (Eva Mendes) has secretly given birth to his son, he quits his racing gigs and tries to provide money for his new family. The best way Luke can see to do this is by pulling off bank robberies and escaping on his hog in grand style. But problems arise when a young hotshot policeman named Avery (Bradley Cooper) decides he can make a name for himself in the academy if he were the one to haul the robber. The Place Beyond the Pines will open in D.C. theaters on March 29 for a limited release. No telling whether or not the film will come to D.C., as release dates for the film haven’t yet been officially posted. However, it does seem likely that it will play at Landmark Theaters or West End Cinema, given its remarkable pedigree.
