Rutherford faces sexual harassment lawsuit from former employee

Edmund Michalowski, a former employee of Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford filed a lawsuit Monday afternoon against the GOP candidate for governor, alleging sexual harassment and gender discrimination.

In his lawsuit, Michalowski alleges that Rutherford subjected him to discrimination based upon his sex from April 2011 to December 2013. The plaintiff claims that Rutherford grabbed his genitals and repeatedly "hit on" him. Michalowski also claims Rutherford made offensive remarks to him and other male employees.

Michalowski served as Rutherford's deputy director of community affairs and marketing from 2011 to February 2014, when he resigned. Michalowski's resignation letter made claims of sexual harassment and political coercion of employees.
