GOP gubernatorial candidate and state treasurer Dan Rutherford is in the midst of a sexual harassment scandal involving an employee. A resignation letter submitted by an employee of Rutherford makes claims of the former.

The letter makes claim of sexual harassment and political coercion. The employee is expected to turn the letter into an official compliant against Rutherford.

Rutherford alerted the media about a brewing scandal last week and claimed rival candidate Bruce Rauner was behind it. Rutherford also stated that the employee's attorney asked for $300,000 in severance pay, but he did not agree to it because he alleges he did nothing wrong. Neither Rutherford or his administration revealed the employee's name.

Despite the scandal, Rutherford continues to move forward with his campaign.

The Illinois primary election is on March 18.
