The Grand Finale of the 4th Annual Rusty Wier Singer / Songwriter Competition took place Sunday night, February 23, at Plano's Love & War in Texas. Each of the seven semi-finalists had 15 minutes each to make a final impression on the judges of the yearly contest with three original songs and one Rusty Wier cover. Those contestants remaining after 53 others had been eliminated were Justin Alan Pickard, Byron Dowd, Chad Purdom, Danny Zagotta, David Byboth, Jason Lovell, and Scott Sean White.
At the end of the night, the winners were announced - First Place went to Scott Sean White, Second Place to Justin Alan Pickard, and Third Place to Jason Lovell. There was a good standing room only crowd at Love & War to cheer the songwriters on. Judging by the crowd's reaction, the fans' favorite was Justin Alan Pickard. You can see a video of one of the songs Justin sang in the finals, Natalie, here.
It had to a hard decision for the judges to choose one winner from these highly talented contenders. The judges for this contest were Brett Dillon - KHYI and contest coordinator, Roger Russell - Dallas Songwriting Association, Mary Jane Farmer - Dig It Deep Music and Scene In Town, and Trisha Aker, Rusty Wier's significant other.
