The second annual Naukabout Music Festival of Cape Cod, at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds in East Falmouth on August 8, 2009 will feature 10 bands on two stages in a family friendly atmosphere.
What is Naukabout?
The simple answer is a clothing company owned by three brothers and a friend. The more interesting answer is where the term Naukabout came from. The Conley brothers grew up on Cape Cod and their fondest memories were of when their dad came home from work and put on what he called his ‘naukabout’ clothes.
That was the signal to the boys that something fun was going to happen-a game of ball, a trip to the beach or just hangin’ out together. So Naukabout came to mean memorable moments with family and friends. And the company designs clothes for those Naukabout moments.
The 2009 Music Festival of Cape Cod
Music was also an important part of Conley family life so organizing a music festival seemed to be a logical way for Naukabout to raise money for causes that are important to them.
Now in its second year, the Naukabout music festival will feature Rusted Root, the Ryan Montbleau Band, Pete Francis & Barefoot Truth, the Old Silver Band, and Roots Down Below on the main stage. Between main stage acts, Emily Elbert, Tripping Lily, Tin Can Tele (with Jeff Conley as lead singer), Same Chase and Dan Byrnes.
But there won’t just be music at the Music Festival of Cape Cod. Good food and drink from Bear Naked, Cape Cod’s own Four Seas Ice Cream, Peak Organic Brewing Company and SwingJuice.
Naukabout Music Festival of Cape Cod benefits the Fresh Air Fund this year
The Camp Naukabout Scholarship Fund, using proceeds from product sales as well as the Music Festival of Cape Cod and other events, gives kids the chance to have camp-based opportunities they might not otherwise experience.
This year naukabout is raising money for the Fresh Air Fund, which helps inner-city kids have a summer vacation in the country. Adam Conley and his family are hosting a Fresh Air Fund child this year and hope to get more Cape Cod families involved in the program.
