Two Russian runners kiss on camera, sparking many to suggest that atheltes Tatyana Firova and Kseniya Ryzhova are either gay or are maybe making a political protest against those that are anti-gay or anti-gay marriage.
Or, maybe it’s just simply what it looks like: two runners kissing.
The kiss has now occurred twice on camera. The first time came after winning the 4x400 meter relay at the World Athletics Championships. And while some may have thought it was just an in-the-moment kind of thing, it happened a second time, this time at the awards ceremony.
Neither athlete has released a statement.
So what’s the big deal? Well, outside of two blondes kissing on the mouth?
Many still harbor belief that Tatyana and Kseniya’s decision to smooch on the lips as a non-violent protest against the anti-gay law passed by Russia’s parliament. The bill bans giving children any information about homosexuality and received overwhelming support by the lower house of Russia’s parliament.
The bill bans "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations,” and while it did pass the lower house of parliament, it still needs to be passed by the appointed upper house and eventually signed into law by President Putin.
But politics aside, most of the Internet just wants to see two Russian female runners kiss. And that’s exactly why this photo has gone viral.
