Anapka the flying donkey has died.
The gray female equid became virally famous in July 2010 after parasailing 150 feet in the air, towed by a speedboat, for 30 minutes over Russia’s Azov Sea. Anapka’s nervous journey through the wild blue yonder raised controversy from animal rights activists around the globe.
Purchased by British newspaper “The Sun” last fall, the donkey lived out her some of her last months in the Kremlin Stables, where she reportedly enjoyed spa treatment for an equid in the five-star facility.
The world-famous donkey became sick in December and passed away recently. Veterinarians indicated that the donkey’s death was likely caused by complications of her forced flight, as she refused to eat, suffered from frequent dizziness and showed signs of ongoing stress.
Anapka the donkey was likely 18 years old when she died. Donkeys may live from 30 to 50 years under normal circumstances.
