Russian meteorite Part 2: Video of explosion blowing out windows, 1000 injured (Photos)

This is chilling. The 10 ton rock the entered Earth’s atmosphere over Russia this morning was seen on numerous videos streaking across the sky. This was at 9:20 am local time The smoke trail was visible for hundreds of miles, yet the size and speed of the object was not possible for space scientists to track. The Russian space agency Roscosmos said this was traveling at 19 miles per second.

Video: Here is an eyewitness perspective in awe of the large trail stretching over a building in Chelybinsk, located about 950 miles southeast of Moscow. Just a few seconds into the recording you will hear and almost feel the explosion as everything shakes and you can hear the breaking glass falling to the street below.

The latest report from local officials has over 1000 people injured and 3,000 buildings damaged.

Caution: If you know Russian, there is some adult language audible here. Can you blame them?

The Russian Academy of Sciences estimated that the meteorite shattered about 30-50km (18-32 miles) above ground. Looking at the smoke plume in the video, it looks a lot closer than that.

Mobile networks were down for a few hours as people jammed their phones to try and get or share information. What do you think would happen if this hit the US?
