Russia warns U.S. is just one suggestion that the country has offered to our nation this week in regards to Syria, as one Russian lawmaker added this week that President Obama is becoming a “clone” of the same legal mistakes that President George W. Bush made. CBS reported this Monday, Aug. 25, that it raises the question as to whether the relations between Russia and the U.S. have the potential to improve as well.
While Russia has warned the U.S. not to make similar mistakes in the Middle East as it has in the past — which some have viewed as a connection to the remark that President Obama is becoming a “clone” to the actions of President Bush — there is still the contention surrounding Syria’s current situation, added the report. Moscow encouraged Washington this weekend to be careful of repeating its past errors when trying to handle the use of chemical weapons by Bashar Assad, the President of Syria. Although the U.S. stated that Assad has used chemical warfare before, Russia has argued that Syria hasn’t.
According to statements from both Syrian opposition factions and Doctors without Borders, over 300 people were killed when a toxic gas attack in a suburb of Syria occurred earlier this week, but government authorities have refuted these claims.
In the interim, Chuck Hagel of the U.S. Defense Dept. added this Sunday that President Barack Obama has told the Secretary to “prepare military options for all contingencies” while the White House currently decides if using offensive action against Syria is necessary.
Only hours after the warning made U.S. headlines, Frussia’s Foreign Ministry added that the alleged toxic gas and chemical attack might have been just a faked “provocation” by Syrian opposition forces, and that the U.S. may be only using it as a cause to attack Syria.
“All of this makes one recall the events that happened 10 years ago, when, using false information about Iraqis having weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. bypassed the United Nations and started a scheme whose consequences are well known to everyone,” the ministry said in a web-posted statement.
Now, from the viewpoints of some in Russia, President Barack Obama is becoming little more than “another Middle East and war-focused George W. Bush.” As one Russian lawmaker stated this week, Obama is now a “clone” of Bush.
“Obama is restlessly heading towards war in Syria like Bush was heading towards war in Iraq. Like in Iraq, this war would be illegitimate and Obama will become Bush’s clone,” tweeted Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian lower house’s international committee, via Twitter.
