Russell Brand brings his frenzied comedy to the MTV Video Music Awards yet again

Russell Brand looks like the kind of guy that people would cross the street to avoid. For some reason, MTV has allowed him to come back to host another year of the MTV Video Music Awards. Is he a musician? No. An actor? Eh…he’s some kind of actor, but until last year, not many Americans had heard of him.

He’s a bit more mainstream in the UK than in the US as a comedian, actor and radio personality. Due to his success in 2008’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, he wasn’t an entirely odd choice for host of the MTV VMA’s. Though his performance last year seemed a bit manic and scatter-brained, his quite possibly drug-induced personality won over MTV enough to be brought back for yet another year.
