Dear Rush Limbaugh,
Are you kidding me?
The geniuses over at the Children’s Book Council (cbcbooks.org) have announced that Rush Limbaugh, unofficial clown extraordinaire of American conservative radio talk shows, has won
Author of the Year for his irrelevant book Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures With Exceptional Americans (Threshold Editions/Simon & Schuster).
According to the suspect Children’s Book Council website, over 1,261,000 votes were cast by kids and teens, resulting in the press release that stated that “New York, NY — May 14, 2014 – The Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader announced the winners of the seventh annual Children’s Choice Book Awards (CCBA) at a charity gala benefitting Every Child a Reader in New York City this evening. The announcement is an annual highlight of Children’s Book Week (May 12-18, 2014) as the Children’s Choice Book Awards is the only national book awards program where the winning titles are selected by kids and teens. Young readers across the country voted in record numbers for their favorite books, author, and illustrator at bookstores, school libraries, and at ccbookawards.com, casting more than 1,261,000 votes.”
Rush Limbaugh has released a statement on his own website singing his own praises, stating: “Ladies and gentlemen, you are listening to your harmless, lovable, little fuzzball host, Rush Limbaugh, well-known radio raconteur bon vivant, and now children's book Author of the Year.”
Whose children are these that nominated this man? What children are out there avidly reading Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims? This award seems odd and unworthy-
