Opinion

Normally, I don’t write first-person reports.

Normally, I don’t give oxygen to conservative blowhard pundits.

Particularly the likes of Rush Limbaugh, who is well known for his misogyny, homophobia, racism and hate-mongering, but sometimes ignoring truly despicable behavior by people paid huge amounts of money to brainwash an audience with vast volumes of fabricated feces is impossible for reasonable human beings.

Sinking to a depth lower than pond scum, Rush Limbaugh used his radio show to politicize Robin Williams’ death and pour out opinionated, windbag lies pulled out of thin air, totally without any imaginable substantiation to denigrate the left.

This following paragraph is just a snippet of how Limbaugh responded after a listener asked if he thought politics were involved in the coverage of Williams’ death:

He had everything, everything that you would think would make you happy. But it didn’t. Now, what is the left’s worldview in general? What is it? If you had to attach not a philosophy but an attitude to a leftist worldview, it’s one of pessimism and darkness, sadness. They’re never happy, are they? They’re always angry about something. No matter what they get, they’re always angry.”

Limbaugh then referenced a totally fabricated, unsubstantiated report on Fox News to make this statement:

“They are animated in large part by the false promises of America because the promises of America are not for everyone, as we see each and every day. I mean, right here there’s a story Fox News website. Do you know, it says right here, that the real reasons that Robin Williams killed himself are he was embarrassed at having to take television roles after a sterling movie career.”

Apparently, someone at Fox News had a crystal ball and figured out the "real reason" why Williams made the choice he did.

The problem with trying to ignore individuals who influence millions of listeners with pure garbage is that they influence millions of listeners—and ignoring them doesn’t make them shut up or go away, which is why more grassroots pushback, like the Flush-Rush movement are surfacing and petitions are being circulated to encourage advertisers to withdraw from supporting his show.

Jason Easley warned about ignoring the words of conservative hacks poisoning public airwaves in his PoliticusUSA report:

“Ignoring Rush Limbaugh won’t make him go away. He has hundreds of stations carrying his program around the country, but ignoring his words would allow him to operate in a zero accountability environment. Rush Limbaugh should not be able to make deplorable remarks like those that he made about the death of Robin Williams without being held accountable.”

The tragic truth is that Williams suffered from depression, which is an illness. There may be many other private factors involved, but left-leaning ideologies were not responsible, no matter how many perverse ways a narcissistic radio personality can twist it.

Everything is politicized by the right and restraint doesn’t appear to exist, but Limbaugh’s use of Williams’ unfortunate death does give a window into the truly shameless, ultra-conservative mentality.

A willingness by millions to believe the sky is purple if the words are uttered by the likes of Limbaugh is major part of the reason this country is in such a dysfunctional state—but that's just my opinion.
