Rush hammer Roughnecks Friday

According to the National Lacrosse League website, the Edmonton Rush trounced the Calgary Roughnecks 15-8 on Friday from Rexall Place in Edmonton.

Mark Matthews of Oshawa, Ontario, the Rush's first round pick in the 2012 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft and 2012 National Lacrosse League rookie of the year, led the Edmonton offense with four goals and three assists for seven points.

Other Rush players who had strong offensive performances were defenseman Chris Corbeil of Oakville, Ontario who had three goals and two assists for five points and forward Curtis Knight of Oshawa, Ontario, who had four goals and one assist for five points.

It was a strong defensive performance by Edmonton who prevented Calgary from scoring in the fourth quarter. After Calgary opened the scoring, the Rush scored the next five goals to take a commanding lead.

With the win, Edmonton improves to 3-0, while Calgary drops to 1-2. The Roughnecks next play at home against the Vancouver Stealth on Saturday. Game time at the Scotiabank Saddledome is 7:00 p.m.
