RUSH’s forthcoming studio album Clockwork Angels will receive a “novel” twist.
According to an article posted today (2/10/11) by U.K.’s ClassicRockMagazine.com, the legendary Canuck progressive rock trio’s 19th studio album is being turned into a book by sci fi writer Kevin J. Anderson.
Anderson, a long-time friend of RUSH drummer/lyricist Neil Peart, and has begun a written treatment of the album in collaboration with the veteran musician along with artist Hugh Syme, who supplies the artwork for the CD booklet.
Anderson provides plot details and some insight into the book's progress in a post on his Facebook page, “In a young man’s quest to follow his dreams, he is caught between the grandiose forces of order and chaos. He travels across a lavish and colourful world of steampunk and alchemy, with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life.”
He adds, “I’m writing the chapters now, incorporating the lyrics into the narrative, and having a fantastic time. More details to come, but for now-to quote a line from Caravan: ‘I can’t stop thinking big'.”
"Caravan," RUSH’s 1st single from the forthcoming album, was released way back on June 1, 2010, backed with the B-side "BU2B" (short for "Brought Up To Believe").
Clockwork Angels’ original release date was delayed due to the extension of the veteran rockers’ hugely successful “Time Machine Tour."
The album should hit shelves in spring 2012.
There is currently no ETA on the novel's release date.
