RuPaul is not about to cower to Carmen Carrera's agenda (Video)

Queerty reported today that transgender activist and former reality star Carmen Carrera has stepped up her attacks on the man who made her famous in the first place. Carmen is known for competing on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” as a gay male drag queen. She later announced she was transgender and identifies as a female. Since coming out as transgender Carmen has become a leader of the radical transgender movement and has made a habit of attacking high profile gay men to further her cause.

Carmen’s frequent victim of late has been the world’s most famous self-identifying tranny RuPaul, but the veteran performer has no intention of taking Carmen’s vitriol sitting down. Carmen has regularly attacked her former TV boss for using the word tranny on the show "RuPaul's Drag Race." Carrera also took issue with the now cancelled segment of the show that replaced e-mail with the word she-male.

RuPaul let the world know how he feels about this controversy when he sat down for an interview on Marc Marons’ podcast earlier this week and said, “Does the word ‘tranny’ bother me? No. I love the word ‘tranny.’ … It’s not the transsexual community who’s saying that. These are fringe people who are looking for storylines to strengthen their identity as victims. That is what we are dealing with. It’s not the trans community. ‘Cause most people who are trans have been through hell and high water… But some people haven’t and they’ve used their victimhood to create a situation where, ‘No! You look at me! I want you to see me the way you’re supposed to see me!’ You know, if your idea of happiness has to do with someone else changing what they say, what they do, you are in for a fucking hard-ass road… I dance to the beat of a different drummer. I believe everybody — you can be whatever the hell you wanna be, I ain’t stopping you. But don’t you dare tell me what I can do or what I can’t — say or can’t do. It’s just words, like, ‘Yeah, you hurt me!’ *****, you need to get stronger. If you’re upset by something I said you have bigger problems than you think.”

Carmen Carrera quickly responded with more irrational insults aimed at RuPaul and the vast majority of people who support him.
What Carrera did not bother to address was the actual issue. RuPaul has a wonderful thing called a dictionary and in it are things we call words. One of those words is spelt tranny. The definition of tranny does not include transgender people. This point seems lost on Carmen Carrera and her devotees.

The main reason behind their movement is a desire by a very select few transgender people to be labeled as natural women, which they are not. These activists regularly take issue with any representation of a boy in a dress that is not in line with their transgender lifestyle. They desperately want to believe they were born women and are women, because in all honestly they hate the fact they are transgender. It has nothing to do with you, me or RuPaul using the word tranny. It has only to do with them hating themselves.

What is more telling of Carrera’s motivations is her choice of targets. There are plenty of transphobic bigots in the world doing actual harm to the transgender community, but Carmen has never seen fit to show some bravery and attack her community’s actual enemies. Instead she chooses to attack mainly celebrity gay men. This strategy has been effective for her movement so far in garnering free publicity. Gay men are also far more likely to back down and cower to their demands and are therefore much easier targets for these radical transgender activists than a straight conservative celebrity who has no respect for any transgender people and would just ignore their baseless attacks.

Most of those in the transgender community do not share Carmen’s narrow view of what is acceptable, including trans icon Justin Vivian Vance who released a statement saying, “A reality check, if people think you are a tranny it’s because you are perceived as one. OWN IT! If they think that’s a bad thing then THEY ARE STUPID! If you don’t wish to own that word or any other word used to describe you other than “male” or “female” then I hope you are privileged enough to have been born with an appearance that will allow you to disappear into the passing world or that you or your generous, supportive family are able to afford the procedures which will make it possible for you to pass within the gender binary system you are catering your demands to. If you’re capable of doing that then GO ON AND DISAPPEAR INTO THE PASSING WORLD! Otherwise quit using your big, privileged -yet ignorant- mouths to make the words used to describe who we are a shameful thing. It is not shameful to be a tranny, a she-male, or any other word used to describe a gender variant individual. It’s shameful to harass people for being comfortable with whom they are and the words they choose to use to describe themselves when you aren’t. That is my opinion on this ridiculous subject. As you can tell I’m angered by this trifling bullshit. We should be working on unifying our community and getting ourselves basic protections under the law. If everyone who is expending so much time and energy harassing their sisters about this word would harass their elected officials with the same amount of verve and fervor we’d be on the way to a much more trans-inclusive society. These words were written in love and anger.”

Vance’s statement has been echoed by countless other popular transgender figures including TS Madison who told her followers on YouTube “Don’t try to attack Miss RuPaul in reference to the shemale situation. Be happy for her! Be glad that this ***** is the reason your *** stood there on a platform and revealed to us who you were, and were able to tell your ******* story!”

Everyone in the LGBT community knows what it is like to be the victim of actual discrimination and real slurs, but it cheapens the entire gay rights movement to have those like Carmen constantly crying wolf. Using the word tranny is not a slur, nor is she-male and to say they are is what is insulting to those that identify as such. Just because Carmen wants to erase the word tranny from the English language does not mean the rest of the community must fall in line with her very small minority of a very small minority’s point of view. It would do Carrera and her followers a lot of good to grow a thicker skin and stop letting others define who they are and to stop trying to redefine others. This world is a big place full of straights, gays, lesbians, pansexuals, bisexuals, transgender men and women, she-males, cross dressers, drag queens, asexuals and others who all just need to get along.
