What does punk music, CBGB’s and haute couture gowns have in common? The elegant spring collection by designer Kati Stern, of Venexiana. While backstage, I asked about her inspiration. “After I pick out my fabrics at the market, I come home, turn on the music and get inspired by my fabrics and the songs. I listen to a lot of punk rock. I adored CBGB’s and especially the Ramones.” She played one of their songs during the runway show.
The Venexiana Spring/Summer 2014 collection screams glamour, class and impeccable style. Sultry models sashayed down the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week decked out in a rainbow of colors adorned with crystals, sequins and feathers. The ultra luxe silk, satin and metallic gowns left the crowd glowing, and ready to slam dance to Joey Ramone.
Stern, known as the go-to-fashion house for rock ‘n’ roll haute couture, is also passionate about baroque opera, architecture and Venice, Italy. After all, she did name her line after the city. Venexiana is the 18th century Italian spelling of Venice.
Here’s to your “rock-opera” collection, Kati!
As usual, Bestey Johnson did not disappoint with her flamboyant, girly-girl Spring 2014 collection, or her runway antics.
The ubiquitous wigs, multi-layered frilly dresses, jumpsuits, and lots of animal prints made for a fun, quirky runway show. And, even more over the top, all the silver-lipped models vogued, and smiled for the cameras. I thought mine was going to break!
But the real showstopper, as usual, her unbelievable cartwheel and split on the runway. And, this time she was accompanied by her two granddaughters, with one cartwheeling and flipping out with grand-ma! Oh, and did I mention the “days of the week” underwear that the models mooned to the crowd? Check out my photos.
Talk about girls who want to have fun! I’m with you Betsey.
