Sweat pants have never been so chic! Norma Kamali has mastered the art of sweatshirt-dressing for her Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Sporty chic is a major spring trend, but Kamali has taken it to a whole new level simply by taking what’s usually the most unfashionable aspect of athletic wear and making it, well, fashionable.
Sleeveless sweatshirts paired with fishtail maxi skirts, pleated tennis skirts, and the most flattering slim-leg sweat pant scream easy style and comfort. Getting out of bed early in the morning will be much easier knowing a stylish sweatshirt/skirt combo is perfectly appropriate and on-trend for the day. Avant-garde hoodies look right at home paired with skirts and bra tops. Even a few long-john-inspired looks made the cut, with a striped long-john jumpsuit looking surprisingly wearable, though we’re not sure how practical that one will be for real life.
The collection rounds out with more workout-inspired garments. Yoga pants and leggings are re-created in black and white with sheer paneling that makes them look luxurious. The sheer paneling is continued in hoodies (some completely sheer) and maxi dresses.
It would seem almost impossible to create a collection of sweat pants and workout gear that is feminine, luxurious, and stylish, but Norma Kamali did it and did it well. With all of the sporty collections at NYFW this season, it’s hard for any one of them to stand out, but Kamali’s definitely did.
