“Must Love Cats” would have been an appropriate title for Markus Lupfer’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Not only did the model pose with fluffy kittens for the presentation, but cats were also a central theme in the clothing. An adorable cat face was used on tops and skirts. “Meow” was written underneath a floating cat head on a cute t-shirt.
The whole collection was almost an ode to Tumblr. In addition to the cats, t-shirts also featured words such as “Loser” and “Lame” in cute handwritten type; something you might have seen doodled on notebooks in junior high. Furthering the teen girl journal idea, some garments were littered with tiny patches (smiley faces, lips, “lame”, rainbows, etc.), and illustrated t-shirts seemed to come straight from a 14-year-old’s notebook.
Lupfer also showed a slightly less youthful aesthetic with his digital, collage-like floral prints. Cut-out dresses, pleated skirts, t-shirts, and jackets executed in these prints are perfect for spring.
