Many people will say when the second trimester arrives, it is the honeymoon of the pregnancy. In terms of running while pregnant in the second trimester, read here what you can expect.
In the first trimester, you can expect to feel out of breath, run slower, maybe have some bouts of morning sickness, and feel tired often. You may experience more bathroom visits than you are used to having.
In the second trimester, some of your lost energy will arrive, you may not feel as out of breath, the morning sickness should subside, and running should be easier. However, remember that you are still becoming slower day by day, so do not think you will return to your old running self! Running can feel as if it takes less effort than it did in the first trimester, but it can still be difficult. The bathroom stops may subside as your body becomes used to the baby growing inside.
You may experience more side stitches, especially around weeks 24-26. These can sometimes be relieved or assisted by purchasing an elastic belt to wear around your belly. However, some days you will just have to stop and try again at a different time of day or another day. Keep in mind that there may be days that you will not feel comfortable running. Try something of lower impact, and try again the next day. Continue to take it easy, consult your doctor, and most of all, listen to your body!
