Long Island’s 36th anniversary of The Great Cow Harbor Run is scheduled to commence on Saturday, September 21 at 8:30 a.m., where over 5,500 expected participants will make their way through the charming maritime community of Northport.
The 10-kilometer course offers participants plenty of challenges combined with stunning views of Long Island’s north shore, including a stretch of roadway showcasing sights of the Long Island Sound.
“This race combines small-town ambience with national class competition,” states the host website. “The course offers a series of rolling green hills, a panoramic view of the Long Island Sound, and a downhill finish.”
Cash prizes of $3,000 will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, along with a $5,000 bonus offered to any winner who breaks the course record of 28 minutes 22 seconds set by Ryan Hall of Big Bear Lake, Ca. in 2006.
Participants are encouraged to complete the online application before the September 18 deadline. A registration fee of $28 for adults and $12 for children under 12 will be used toward a substantial contribution to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northport, Special Olympics New York and the local Food Pantry.
