It's officially "Boston Marathon Week" which means that we're less then a week from number pick-up and the expo, and just 8 days until the start of the 26.2 mile journey. Here is a rundown of items that you may be interested in following the race:
1. A Boston Marathon cupcake, specialized with you bib number! (take a look at the photo on the left). If you want a post-race treat, this is pretty cool. I'm not exactly a cupcake person, but the bib number is a very neat touch. They're being made by Sweet Cupcakes, located on Newbury Street, right near the finish line. Special order cupcakes (with the bib numbers) must be made 48 hours in advance.
2. If you want to capture your race memory forever, there are many types of frames and pictures you can purchase. However, many of them cost as much as the entry fee to your race. I recently discovered 3D frames that range from $16 to $38, and are a pretty neat way of capturing your race memories. (Here's a YouTube video showing how they work). You can put anything in these frames, from your race number, medal, trophy, or even your running shoe (to remember what you were wearing during that first marathon or PR).
3. It's something no runners like to admit, but sometimes (especially in the summer) things can get smelly. I'm very conscious about using natural "smell" products, and I don't like those car air fresheners which are far from natural. Fresh Wave is a product I've come across that's all natural, and they have every type of odor eliminator you'd need, including ones for your running shoes and gym bag. It's not a must-have, but if you don't want your clothes to stink, it's worth looking into.
