Runners, walkers and bikers fighting hunger in America

Feeding America, the largest hunger fighting organization in the U.S., said yesterday that it has raised $19,829 dollars from Charity Miles.

Runners, walkers and bikers can use Charity Miles, which is a free cell phone or android application. After downloading the app you select a charity to sponsor and for every mile you cover a donation is made. A Facebook account is required to use Charity Miles, as the workout results are automatically posted there.

Charity Miles is fast gaining popularity including being highlighted on the Today Show.

In the case of Feeding America the donations via Charity Miles translate into tens of thousands of meals for food banks across the country. Feeding America hopes to raise at least $100,000 dollars from Charity Miles by the end of this year.

Over fifty million Americans suffer from hunger or "food insecurity." Charity Miles offers an easy way for people to help while they do their normal workout routine.
