The Thirty Second Annual Hashaton Six Mile Trail Race was held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in Cheesequake State Park in Old Bridge, NJ. It is known as one of the toughest trail races in the area and it is an accomplishment to finish and "survive" in one piece.
The Six Mile race was preceded starting at 10:30 AM by a One Mile Fun Run around the lake in the park. The run was through some challenging hills and trails. The winners were Gavin Danagos in 9:48 and Crystal Pappas in 6:49.
At the conclusion of the One Mile Run the six mile runners were lined up and Mark Griggs the Race Director of the event for the past several years gave the runners their instructions and warned them of the challenges they would face on the course. He then marched them up to the starting line. Dave Demonico played a rendition of the National Anthem on his bugle and then Mark gave the runners the signal to start.
The runners then proceeded down a wide open hill and toward the lake and entered the trails in the woods more or less single file. The course included numerous hills and steep inclines as well as rugged trails and several pairs of steps that the runners had to climb. Along the course Dave played his trumpet which could be heard reverberating through the park. “Chickie” played the drums for the runners at the start and along the course as well.
