The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon San Jose is one of the many musically-themed races in the Competitor Group's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series, but to those in search of a PR this weekend, it may be better known as “California’s fastest half marathon.”
More than 14,000 entrants are preparing to toe the starting line this Sunday, October 7, on a course that’s home to both of the current California state half-marathon records: 1:00:22, set by Kenya’s Duncan Kibet in 2006, and 1:09:17, established by Silvia Skortsova of Russia the same year.
“The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon has become a Bay Area running tradition,” Roger Craig, the race’s co-founder and a three-time Super Bowl Champion with the San Francisco 49ers, told Competitor.com. “This year is our largest event ever, which is truly a testament to how the community supports this great race. I’m excited to see so many participants out celebrating a healthy and active lifestyle, and welcome all of the athletes who annually return to San Jose on the first weekend in October.”
The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and levels, from novice to professional, and features more than 20 live bands and hundreds of local high school cheerleaders to entertain and cheer on participants along the scenic course. Finishers will celebrate to the tunes of event headliner Matt Nathanson, known for his hit “Come On Get Higher,” which went platinum with 1.3 million single sales and peaked at No. 3 at Mainstream AC.
Online registration is now closed; registration will be available at the expo, if any spots remain open. For more information, visit the San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon web site here.
