The Annual Manasquan Beach Run was held on Saturday, February 15, 2014. The weather was not as bad as predicted but it was still cold with temperatures barely above freezing, a strong north east wind and a cold damp drizzle falling on the runners at the 11 a.m. start. The participants were not deterred and defied the nasty weather to participate in this shore favorite.
Coming in first for the men was Matthew Riley of Point Pleasant in a time of 11:39. He was followed by Michael Brady of Belmar in 12:40; James Coomber of Lake Como in 17:41; Patrick Lesniak of Manahawkin in 12:45; Alphonse Rispoli of Hoboken in 12:50; Thomas Somers of Sayreville in 12:55, Robert McGowan of Monroe in 13:06, Michael Collins of Whiting in 13:07; Nick Castellano of Brick in 13:21; John Seemer of Rockland Florida in 13:28.
For the women topping the field was Amy Nalven of Brick in 12:44. She was followed by Alexandria Okunewicz of Toms River in 12:45; Kristen Ruggiero of Cedar Grove in 14:04; Joann Bracco of Bradley Beach in 14:35; Mae Corrigan of Spring Lake in 14:40; Megan Young odf Manasqaun in 14:54; Sharon Conwell of Atlantic highlands in 14:51; Meghan Miller of Sayreville in 15:01; Shannon MacMaster of Whiting in 15:12; Megan Sabo of Point Pleasant in 15;20

According to Penny Hinck of Monmouth Beach a volunteer from the Jersey Shore Running Club ,"The weather was dreary but the runners spirits were high."
Runners who were pre-registered received neat looking hooded sweatshirts which came in handy after the race on the cold day.
Runners partied at Leggetts and enjoyed pizza pasta and other post run refreshments.
Congrats to Race Director, Mary O’Brien of Wall for another great event in Manasquan.
Next Sunday it is the Winter Train Run form Asbury Park. Runners can assure a seat on the Train and a great looking tech shirt by signing up this weekend.
