The Jersey Shore Running Club’s Annual New Year’s Eve twilight run was held on Friday, December 31, 2010 in Lake Como, NJ. The event despite the snow storm earlier in the week which made the roads a bit treacherous still attracted a crowd of several hundred runners and many walkers as well.
Among the participants was a large family group based out of Point Pleasant which dubbed themselves the “Flyinmg Fucci’s”. They all wore t-shirts emblazoned with their names and cheered each other on at the finish. Other participants were decked out in costumes and dress for the occasion.
The event started with an abbreviated course due to slippery roads along the lake which originally was intended to be about 2.5 miles was shortened to 2.14 miles. The runners started on the side of Bar Anticipation and then made their way along Main Street in Lake Como into neighboring Spring Lake along the lake down to the ocean and a turnaround back to the start area. Despite a few slippery areas all the participants made it back without a problem.
The event was staged as a “Fun Run” although many participants raced around the course and results were compiled.
After the run all were treated to an open bar and a buffet inside bar Anticipation. A fe minutes before 7 PM EST which was midnight in Dublin, Ireland an countdown to 2011 was held and a celebration with noise makes and the usual festivities was held.
It was also a notable occasion for the co race directors Phil and Penny Hinck of Monmouth Beach as it was also their wedding anniversary.
