In RuneScape, players generally reach the Scythe region of player owned ports in about two weeks. The Scythe region is generally where the dynamics of the game start to change significantly. This RuneScape guide will elaborate on this region.
RuneScape players should expect to remain in the scythe for two to three weeks. Although theoretically possible to be through it in a little over a week, the limitations of time and resources make it impossible for most players to use all their voyages on the scythe every day.
Scythe voyages take anywhere from three and a half hours to almost five hours. Not all RuneScape players own their third ship at this point.
Initially, focus on the easy cherry missions. Most missions give 150 cherry, enough to hire one crewman. These start at 750, comparable to a level five crew from the hook region.
If your third ship is not built, continue gathering slate from slate missions. If you are crunching in time, switch over to bamboo missions from the arc. 3,000 bamboo are needed for the upgrade and they can be easily obtained rather than wasting the voyages altogether.
When the third ship is built, it can sail for additional bamboo, gunpowder, or slate while the best crew is going after either cherry wood or special missions.
If there are no scroll/trade good special missions, go after the cherry wood ones. The cherry will boost your supply and enable hiring good crew.
Ideally procure roughly three to four crewmen of each type, retaining your best from the last region to have five total. If your missions are hitting 100% easily, consider hiring a scythe level merchant and using it, especially for bamboo or slate.
Next, start saving cherry and upgrade the deck item that corresponds to the need of the special voyage or supplements the ship's weakness. Do trade good missions when they arise.
There is no absolute rush to focus on cherry wood. The cherry wood from normal cherry missions is sufficient to upgrade all ship parts, hire a full crew, and have a few sea witches by 50-60% through. Sea witches are unlocked by traveling to the wind's home. They are rare on the crew roster selection and should be retained and bought if possible.
Continue accumulating trade goods, cherry, slate, and bamboo until the scythe is complete.
