In RuneScape, there were three player owned ports rewards which added a permanent effect to each ship specifically. They were lifeboat, lotus tint spectacles, and fortune of the sea. However, a recent update has brought these items into question.
Lifeboat grants a chance that a crewmember who is lost on a voyage be rescued and thus remain on the RuneScape player's crew. Lifeboats are much rarer than fortune of the sea or lotus tint spectacles. As of now, they still seem to be a permanent effect.
Lotus tint spectacles currently grant 50% experience gained for each crew member on the ship. Formerly a permanent effect, it was discovered after the January 14, 2013 update to only last for one trip. Therefore, these should only be used for pincers crew or if there are the limit of three stored and the RuneScape player wants to have a shot at getting another one.
Fortune of the sea grants 10% rewards or penalties for the ship. In the Jan. 14, 2013 patch notes, it was noted that it now works differently and now only lasts for one voyage. RuneScape players should therefore only use this on large rewards voyages such as the barmaid's tip or other large reward trips.
