On May 14, runDisney and Disney Cruise Line announced a joint venture to add a new running challenge to the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Runners who sail on a designated Disney Cruise itinerary following race weekend will be able to register for the inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge.

Runners who undertake the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge will first need to complete one or more of the races – 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon – offered at the 2015 Walt Disney World (WDW) Marathon Weekend that will take place Jan. 7 – 11. Participants can then sign up and complete the Castaway Cay 5K, a race that takes place on Disney Cruise Line’s private Bahamas island during a four-night sailing aboard the Disney Dream.

Runners who finish the Castaway Cay 5K after having finished one of the WDW Marathon races, completing both within the pacing requirements, will have successfully met this newest runDisney Challenge. Finishers will earn an inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge medal and receive a commemorative t-shirt. As with other runDisney Challenges, the special medal will be awarded in addition to the Castaway Cake 5K medallion given for finishing the island race and those received from WDW Marathon Weekend.

The inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge event will take place Wednesday, Jan. 14 as part of a Disney Cruise Line sailing that departs Jan. 12, 2015, one day after WDW Marathon ends. That cruise sails from Port Canaveral, Fl. In addition to stopping at Castaway Cay, this four-night Disney Dream itinerary includes a stop at Nassau.

As part of this special Disney Cruise Line itinerary, the sailing will offer exclusive activities organized for the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge participants. Special menu items and merchandise will also be available.

To participate in this runDisney event, runners must be registered for both 2015 WDW Marathon Weekend and Disney Castaway Cay Challenge races. They must also book the Jan. 12, 2015 Disney Dream sailing directly through the Disney Cruise Line. Runners may then register for the Castaway Cay Challenge via Active.com when race registration opens May 23 at noon EST. Spots will be limited, and participants will need to have a Disney Cruise reservation number at time of registration.
