Run Your Buns Off 5K to benefit Ohio House Rabbit Rescue

Put on your bunny slippers – er, running shoes – and get ready for the second annual Run Your Buns Off 5K! The race will be held on March 3, 2013 and is organized by the Ohio House Rabbit Rescue. Proceeds from the race will help abandoned pet rabbits, help the OHRR efforts in educating the public about these wonderful house pets, and further the goal of establishing a rabbit rescue center.

Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male and female runners and the top 3 male and female runners in each age group. The race will be held in beautiful Scioto Audubon Metro Park at 400 W Whittier Street in Columbus ; registration will begin at 8 a.m.; the event begins at 9 a.m. The fee for the 5K run (3.1 miles) is $30 on race day, but you can save $5 by pre-registering here; the 1 mile fun run/walk is $20 on race day or $15 with pre-registration.

Race packets can be obtained March 1 and 2 at Fleet Feet Columbus during normal business hours. For more information, check out the Facebook page or e-mail Shannon at shanmac16@hotmail.com with questions about the event. You can also follow them on Facebook.

Ohio House Rabbit Rescue (OHRR) – the folks who bring you Midwest BunFest each October - is dedicated to the goals of building and operating a Center for rescued abandoned pet rabbits, offering a robust adoption program, and providing educational resources and programming on the proper care of house rabbits. OHRR envisions a community where all pet rabbits live indoors as companions and have access to a proper diet, habitat, and regular veterinary care for the duration of their life. In Central Ohio each year more than 900 unwanted pet rabbits are offered for surrender at animal shelters or rescues which have no space for them – or they are simply released outdoors where they are promptly eaten by predators or succumb to disease, the elements or starvation. OHRR seeks a better alternative.
