The Jersey Shore Dream Center has teamed up with the Jersey Shore Running Club's RunAPalooza which is scheduled for April 26, 2014. The event continues to be a fund raiser for Special Olympics New Jersey.
The Dream Center is located in Asbury Park and serves the community. It is led by its founder Pastor Isaac Friedel. Isaac will be running in the half marathon along with several member of his congregation. They are using it as a fund raiser for the Center. They will also have volunteers assisting and cheering on all the runners on that day.
The Center is also encouraging it’s supporters to participate in the 5K run/walk. There will be a sort of race within the race with a Jersey Shore Dream Center 5k going off at the same time as the RunAPalooza Jersey Shore 5K.
Runners and walkers interested in supporting the Center can register for the Jersey Shore Dream Center 5K and help support the Center and Isaac’s dream of helping those in need in the community.
I visited Isaac at the Dream Center which is located in Asbury Park just a few blocks from the start of the Asbury Park Half. While I was there I observed volunteers busy preparing food baskets, organizing clothing items, sorting through baby food and assisting people who came to their door step seeking help. Here is what Isaac had to say:
Why are you running?
I am running to raise money and help the fight against poverty, hunger, and addiction in the Jersey Shore.
What is the Dream Center?
The Jersey Shore Dream Center is a 501C 3 non-profit outreach and recovery center with nine different weekly programs including a soup kitchen, food pantry, mobile food truck, and adopt a block. In 2013 we served over 27,000 men, women, and children who were battling hunger and poverty.
Have you ever run a half marathon before?
No, this will be my first time running more than 3 miles.
What made you decide to run?
This April will be my 30th birthday and nothing would mean more to me than seeing donations being made to the Dream Center so we can better serve those in need..
What inspires you?
My inspiration is to run for all those who are in a fight with hunger, poverty, or an addiction and provide them a second chance to see their dreams restored.
Isaac signs his correspondence with "You can't help everybody, but you can help somebody". And a good way to help is through support of the Dream Center.
And if you want to run your first 5k and be ready for the race there are beginner's groups starting up in March.
