Tuesday, October 29, 2013 will mark the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy that devastated the area.
To mark that anniversary the Jersey Shore Running Club will be hosting an informal run that will start at 6 p.m. from the Deal Fire House located at 110 Brighton Ave in Deal, N.J.
The run will will take runners to the Asbury Park Boardwalk to the “Light up New Jersey” event on the boardwalk there that will take place at 6:50 p.m. At that event according to the organizer NJ 101.5 web site, “we will stand together as we remember what happened and look towards the future. We will continue to recover … and prove to the world that we’re stronger than the storm.”
At 6:50 p.m. the new “Stronger than the Storm” jingle will be played and everyone will shine their flashlights in a Moment of Light to recognize the occasion.
Those that have pre-registered on the NJ 101.5 web site will receive a free “Light Up New Jersey” flashlight.
Runners will go in groups based on pace and meet up at the Asbury Park Convention Hall and all will then run together the last quarter mile in one group to the ceremony which is planned on the southern end of the boardwalk.
After the brief ceremony the runners will run back to the Deal Fire House where the Jersey Shore Running Club will have their regular monthly meeting. Refreshments will be available.
Participants are urged to bring a flashlight to the run and wear some reflective clothing. There is no cost for the run or pre-registration. Just show up at the Deal Fire House prior to 6 p.m. The total distance to and from the event in Asbury Park is 5 miles.
