The Annual Run Thru Deal was held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 in this Jersey Shore town along the ocean between Asbury Park and Long Branch. The event is a favorite among local runners with a fast and flat course and nice wide starting line. Some 300 participated in this year’s events.
It was a bright sunny day with temperatures in the low 60's for the start and very little wind.
This year’s race was a benefit for Interfaith Neighbors and was dedicated to Jason Fazio the Asbury Park Firefighter who suffered serious burns over his body fighting a fire in Asbury Park.

Prior to the 5K a One Mile Fun Run was held which attracted many participants on the course which started on Ocean Avenue and finished at the Deal Casino.
At 11 AM it was the 5K runners turn. They were inspired at the start with a stirring singing of the National Anthem. They took off going North on Ocean Avenue looped back and then went south toward Asbury Park before returning back to the Deal Casino for the finish.
Coming in first was Jersey Shore Running Club’s Pat Ford of Neptune City in a time of 17:43. He was followed by Constasntine Ballas of Parlin.
For the women it was Sophia Barnatha of Brooklyn, NY in a time of 19:43. She was followed by Nichole Delpizzo of Wanamassa.
The first firefighter was Frank DiLello of Ocean Township.
Jason Fazio held the finish tape for the winners along with Christine Bruno.
After each event awards were presented to overall and age group winners presented by Race Director Scott Lewis..
Participants were treated to a barbecue and beer and soda after the race.
