Run or walk anywhere in the world to help restore the shore (Photos)

The Jersey Shore Running Club has announced the establishment of a Run to Restore Virtual Run which will be dedicated to helping the towns impacted by Hurricanes Sandy rebuild and recover.

The Club is located at the shore and its members know first-hand the extent of the devastation as a result of the hurricane. Its normal running routes along the boardwalks and many parks are gone at least until they can be rebuilt. Many members were directly impacted with their homes either demolished or still not habitable. It will be a long process to recover and return to normalcy.

The run will be a part of the Club’s RunAPalooza that will be held on April 20, 2013. RunAPalooza includes the Asbury Park Half Marathon and Jersey Shore Five. The half marathon is also part of the Road Runners Club of America New Jersey Grand Prix which will also be a fund raiser for restoring the shore.

The “Virtual Run” was set up to allow those runners or walkers who could not for whatever reason participate in RunAPalooza to show their support.

Participants can sign up on line and it only costs $10.00. All the proceeds will go toward the towns and cities along the shore to assist in their rebuilding things such as boardwalks, restrooms, water fountains, light poles etc. While federal aid will pay for much of the rebuilding it won’t pay for everything.

Runners can run a 5K, 5 miles, half marathon or marathon distances anytime up to April 14, 2013. Participants will then be given instructions on how to report their distance and times. There will be awards for the top fundraisers as well as special categories such as most exotic location, furthest location, best dressed runner, etc. all based on photos that will be posted or emailed back to the club. Results will be posted along with the results from the other RunAPalooza events.

The goal is to get runners from all parts of the country and even other parts of the world who have an affinity to the Jersey Shore either from once living there or just from watching the reality show by that name. Maybe ‘Snooki’ will sign up.
