Biking and running to work are becoming more and more popular these days. Not only is this form of commuting good for the environment, it provides that extra workout and the extra stress relief that so many need.
Each morning at Aversboro Coffee in Garner, NC, there is a collection of self-propelled commuters. No matter the weather, one biker gets coffee before his 12 mile bike ride to work. One runner leaves a bag of clothes with the baristas so that he can run to the shop, get cleaned up, and start his day of work. When asked why they do it, they each respond in the same way.
The commute is more fun.
Stress is broken on the way to work and on the way home.
With a busy schedule, biking and running to work is the only way to get in the mileage necessary for their train.
An example of this made the national headlines just recently. This past weekend, the City of Miami hosted their annual marathon. Getting anywhere on that day was going to be a bear. So Lebron James, perhaps the most famous man in Miami right now, put on a helmet and camelback, and biked the 3 miles from his home to the arena. He then proceeded to drop 35 Pts, 11 Reb, 5 Ast, and 1 Blk. No fatigue there. He even had enough energy to completely jump over one player for a dunk.
Whether you play for the Miami Heat or work at a restaurant, a run or a bike ride on the way to work is worth considering. It might just make the rest of your day a lot more pleasant
