Run for the Hills to benefit Special Olympics

Farmington's Run for the Hills is Saturday, Aug. 21, and there's still time to register. What's more, there's a new reduced price for kids 12 and under.

The event benefits Special Olympics Oakland County, and there's a 1 mile fun run/walk, a 5k run and a 10k run. Fees are $30 for the 5k and 10k, and $15 for the 1 mile, but kids 12 and under can participate in any of the events for just $10. That $10 entitles them to enter the race, wear a race number and earn a medal. Their times will not be recorded and they won't get t-shirts, but it's a great deal to get kids out and exercising.

The 10k run starts at 8 a.m., the 1 mile at 8:05 a.m., and the 5k at 9 a.m. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided to the runners, and there will be awards for the top 3 male and female in each age group.

Register at Starbucks on Grand River in downtown Farmington or at the race, which starts in Shiawassee Park.

Visit the Run for the Hills Web site for more information.
