We've all heard the phrase, "You're as young as you feel." And, quite frankly, I use this very motto to justify the fact that I have Aaron Carter on my iPod at the ripe old age of 23. But, "You're as young as you exercise?"-- well, that's certainly a new one. According to a recent study at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, hitting the gym does more than make you feel young, it may actually slow the effects of aging. Sweating off grays? Forget the New Year's Resolution, sign me up for a gym membership now!
If you aren't already on the exercise bandwagon, it's never too late to start. The Run for Shelter 5K is Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. This 3.1-mile race winds throughout the scenic areas of Covington, KY.
Participants will be bussed from Willie's Sports Cafe in Covington (map) to the starting line at Volpenhein Pavilion in Devou Park. The race ends just before Willie's Sports Cafe, so runners will not need transportation at the finish.
Online registration is available for a fee of $25 (through 10/12 at 11:59 p.m.) and includes a T-shirt. The race-day registration fee is $30 and T-shirts will be provided based on availability. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female walkers and runners.
Proceeds benefit Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky, an organization that works to provide a safe environment for individuals seeking shelter from the cold and to link those individuals with community agencies and additional services.
Embrace your youth and help those less fortunate as the temperatures drop during the winter season.
