According to the Huff Post, (9/4/13), former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said that Obama's strategy in Syria appears "feckless" to the international community and that the President either should remove the Assad regime completely from power or do nothing at all.
The Huff quoted Rumsfeld: "You either change the regime or you ought to do nothing." Rumseld then characterized the President's proposed air-strike against Syria as a "shot across the bow." Rumsfeld questioned the credibility of a policy that draws a red line in Syria and then fires a shot that does nothing more than make a "splash." Rumsfeld questioned what the United States would be accomplishing with such a "feckless" air-strike that portrays the United States in an embarrassing position.
The Huff article then denoted that Rumsfeld was critical of Obama's trip to the golf course immediately after making the announcement of his intentions to order air-strikes on Syria. The Huff quoted Rumsfeld: "The president is not, in my view, providing the kind of leadership that I think almost any leadership in my lifetime would be providing."
Rumsfeld was Defense Secretary during the administration of President George W. Bush and was instrumental in the Administration's response to the 9-11 attacks. He also was one of the main architects of the United States war policy in Iraq and Afghanistan.
