It appears that former WWE and World Heavyweight champion Rey Mysterio Jr. could be leaving the WWE after his contract expires in three months. According to a February 26 report by PWInsiderElite.com, since Rey is no longer considered a top-tier talent, many within the WWE believe that Rey will finish up his contract and depart the company that he has been a part of since the summer of 2002.
These same individuals also believe that Rey Mysterio could be heading back to his roots. Speculations are that Rey would return to AAA and become a huge part of their program, which will begin filming a new TV show in August. The show's taping will take place in Los Angeles.
There's no doubt that Rey's status will help boost the AAA promotion. Additionally, his style of wrestling is more suitable for AAA than the WWE. And with the WWE apparently not in any hurry to give Rey a main event push, the rumors of Rey leaving could have serious merit.
The rumored departure of Rey Mysterio follows on the heels of CM Punk leaving the company and recent reports that Alberto Del Rio is considering leaving the WWE once his contract ends. The loss of these 3 wrestlers would have a major impact on the WWE landscape.
