Fans waiting for Final Fantasy Versus XIII have had to exercise some patience, having waited almost seven years since the game’s initial announcement. Recently, a NeoGAF member by the name of Verendus has stated that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be making its way to next generation consoles in 2014, albeit with the “Versus XIII” bit of its title removed.
Verendus also seems to believe that the 15th and 16th main entries in the series are being developed simultaneously, with 15 (possibly a rebranding of Versus), being an exclusive. He has told forum moderators to delete his account if his information proves to be inaccurate. With no news on the game’s development since 2011 (aside from a few denials that Versus was outright cancelled), many fans may be more than happy to believe these rumors.
As with any rumor, these claims shouldn’t be taken too seriously until official word is given. Even though many have jumped to believe this as truth, remember that these claims are being made anonymously, by a NeoGAF poster. Similar claims have been proven wrong before, and risking one’s account is nothing new. Regardless, this has rekindled some fans’ interest in this game, and hopefully more information will be revealed at either Sony’s PlayStation event on February 20th, or at this year’s E3.
