Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 emulation could be coming to the Playstation 4 in the future, according to sources close to Eurogamer on Tuesday. The source claims that while Playstation 3 games will be running on Playstation Now's streaming service, games from previous generations will be run through software emulation and could come with graphical improvements to make them visually appealing on HD displays.
After the Playstation 3 decided to scrap hardware emulation, they did manage to get things running on the software side, leading to several key titles in Sony's "HD remasters" titles to run original assets at a higher resolution without any need to tinker the original game. The idea behind this is that Sony could potentially run a similar strategy on the PS4 for those looking for pre-PS3 generation titles.
Another key part of this story is that Sony is hoping for native HD resolutions, meaning it would do away with the shoddy upscaling that was found on the aforementioned titles on the PS3. IGN has gotten in touch with representatives at Sony and the official word from them for now is, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation."
