Nintendo had to announce the release of the 3DS early to beat reporters in Japan from leaking information too early. We still haven't seen the new hand-held from the House of Mario but we now may know when gamers can get it in their hands. According to industry source in the UK, the Nintendo 3DS will be released to retail this October ahead of the holiday season.
The 3DS is supposed to allow gamers to play 3D games without the need for special glasses according to details previously revealed after the announcement. An October release gives the 3DS plenty of time for Christmas shoppers to find the hand-held during a very busy holiday season that will also include major releases like Project Natal and PS Move from Microsoft and Sony respectively. However, it also puts a bit of a damper on the release of the DSi XL.
Barring more leaks, expect to finally see the 3DS in action at E3 this June.
