According to info gathered by Game Informer, we might be in store for not one, but TWO fighting games from Namco and Capcom pleasing both Street Fighter and Tekken fans.
The rumors started as Namco Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada and Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono appeared at the Evo fighting game tournament in 2010. Most notably, they mentioned a fighting game debut trailer to go live on Saturday, July 24th during Comic-Con. (See the video below for more details.)
From what Game Informer has gathered, Capcom is set to make a Capcom vs. Namco game using the Street Fighter IV engine and Namco Bandai will create a Namco vs. Capcom game with the Tekken 6 engine. As a result, there would be two totally different games-- one featuring the graphics and fighting of 2D Street Fighter and one featuring the long moveset combos with 3D fighting of Tekken. Game Informer goes on to say, “Ono is rumored to produce the Capcom game, and we're guessing that Harada will handle the Namco end of things.”
Capcom seems to be on a roll doing fighting games ever since its successful revival of the 2D fighting game with Street Fighter IV. Capcom has also made crossover game Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the Wii, made the RPG crossover Namco X Capcom for the PS2 (never released in North America), and announced the highly anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Does this mean we’re in store for even more Capcom crossover fighters? Sonic the Hedgehog vs. Sonic Boom? Super Smash Bros. vs. Super Street Fighter? Also, which characters might be in the Namco Capcom crossovers? I’m hoping for Soul Calibur and possibly… Katamari Damacy? A fan can dream, but what can we do but speculate until July 24th?
Well, we can follow Ono's Twitter page here. He seems to be addressing a few other twitter users questions! So far he has been giving some coy answers such as:
Now, I called Harada-san as Tekken Project Leader. He was laughing about Rumor.
and
I wish I could see that title just once. :) RT @Louie_E Capcom Vs. Namco running on the SSFIV engine! ;]
Oh no, you Ono, you know what we wanna know.
