The 12th and newest casino, Revel, not open for another 48 days, has jumped both feet first into the rumor mill that surrounds Atlantic City's casinos and its world-famous Boardwalk by circulating the possibility that Maroon 5 may be their opening act. With a soft opening scheduled for April 2 and a grand opening set for Memorial Day Weekend, rumor has it that Revel has snagged the very popular pop rock band.
Maroon 5 is hot, hot, hot right now among the younger crowd. Lead singer Adam Levine led the group in a tribute to the Beach Boys at the 54th Grammy Awards with a pretty good rendition of the Beach Boys' megahit Surfer Girl. Maroon 5 then took the stage, along with fellow rockers Foster the People, when the legendary Beach Boys took to the stage to kick off their 50th anniversary tour with a rousing rendition of Good Vibrations. Of course, the 54th Grammy Awards show will be forever known for the prayers and tributes in honor of Whitney Houston who tragically passed away the day before. Jennifer Hudson sang a very beautiful and moving version of I Will Always Love You as a salute to Ms. Houston.
Back to Revel. If you didn't know Maroon 5 before the 54th Grammy Awards Show, you do now. Will they play at Revel or won't they? Right now, Revel ain't revealing. Obviously, there's going to be some type of big show around their Grand Opening, possibly a few days before. Of course, we are talking Memorial Day Weekend. It will have to be seriously showstopping entertainment to lure people down to the far north end of the Boardwalk, new casino or not. Maroon 5 fits that bill, especially with a resort that is attempting to attract a younger crowd to its tables and slot machines.
