It's no secret that Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift aren't as close as they used to be, and that Gomez has been hanging out with Kendall and Kylie Jenner quite a bit lately. Now, reports are suggesting that the "Come and Get It" singer is using her friendship with the Jenner sisters to sick it to her former best friend.
As a Hollywood Life source commented on April 19, "Selena is hanging around Kendall because she’s in Justin’s circle, she’s not trying to stab Taylor in the back, but there’s an obvious burn factor there...Selena knows Taylor’s not going to be happy about it but she doesn't care, she’s letting Taylor know that she’s not going to be controlled anymore."
Many people believed that Gomez' decision to reunite with Justin Bieber contributed to their fallout. Swift has never been a fan of Gomez' off-again/on-again relationship with him. Rumor has it that the country cutie had given her an ultimatum, forcing Gomez to choose between her and Bieber. As the source explained, "Selena is still p-d that Taylor made such a big deal about her and Justin and gave her an ultimatum — she thinks that was really immature."
Reports have also been circulating that Bieber had "brainwashed" the "Slow Down" singer, and that she was letting him negatively influence her decisions. On April 17, Radar Online hinted that her parents were not supportive of the relationship, and that their disapproval had contributed to her decision to fire them as her managers.
As an insider reported, "Selena is now acting a little brainwashed and not challenging a thing Justin says. There was a time not long ago where they were fighting and arguing about their relationship, but now she’s like a robot and completely in his thrall...Whatever he did to keep her from moving on from the relationship worked a little bit too well, because it’s like she’s a completely different person."
Was Swift right about Bieber? Was she right to distance herself from Gomez? Are Gomez' loved ones justified in being concerned about Bieber's influence? On the one hand, it does seem a bit strange that she suddenly swapped out her parents and Swift in favor of Bieber and the Jenner sisters.
On the other hand, "Selenators" could argue that Swift was overstepping her boundaries by telling her former best friend who to date, and allowing a boyfriend to come between them. Gomez' supporters could also argue that Swift was being disloyal by becoming close friends with Lorde, an artist who has openly disparaged Gomez and her music.
Is Selena Gomez trying to stick it to Taylor Swift by hanging out with the Jenner sisters? Did Swift really give Gomez and ultimatum about Justin Bieber? Did she overstep her bounds? Or was she just trying to protect her pal from a potentially toxic relationship? Was Gomez justified in distancing herself from Swift in favor of Kendall Jenner? Or is she making a big mistake in letting this friendship go?
